Pocket layout is built around the job: a maintenance crew carries a tape and pliers, an electrician wants fine-tipped tools, a warehouse team needs a dedicated pocket for a handheld terminal. A standard cargo trouser meets none of these fully; in custom production the pocket layout is drawn from scratch.
Freedom of movement is the second factor. For crews that work crouched, elastane-blended fabric or an elasticated back waist together with pre-shaped knee seams makes a noticeable difference to end-of-day fatigue.
Fit and pattern account for half the comfort of a work trouser. At the same size, the difference between a flat pattern and a pre-shaped knee shows up by the end of a day spent crouching. In bulk orders the size curve should be split by role: a site crew and a warehouse crew never produce the same distribution.
Wash durability matters more than purchase price. A trouser washed twice a week sees a hundred washes a year, and that is when colour loss and thinning at the knee appear. A few wash trials at the sample stage remove the surprise that would otherwise arrive in the second year.

What fabric weight suits work trousers?
Medium weight is enough for office and light site use, while heavy industry and construction call for a higher weight. Wash frequency also matters; for frequently washed garments, colour and shape retention come to the fore.
Do you make trousers that take knee pads?
Yes. We produce models with an internal pocket at the knee for rigid or gel pads; it is the most requested arrangement for crews that work crouched.
Does elastane reduce durability?
Not at the right proportion. Two to three per cent elastane adds freedom of movement without meaningfully affecting tensile strength. Problems arise in cheap fabrics where weight is cut drastically to gain stretch.
Do we decide the pocket layout?
Yes. In custom production the number, position, depth and flap type of pockets are drawn around the tools your crew carries. The sample is trialled on site and the pattern revised if something falls out or does not fit.
Which fabric weight suits work trousers?
Heavy structural work calls for a high-weight cotton-polyester weave; indoor and service roles are better served by a lighter blend. Weight is chosen against abrasion, not against price.
Can the knee take a reinforcement?
Yes. Double fabric, a cordura panel or a knee pad pocket can be added, and in crouching trades this is what decides how long the trouser lasts.
