In sections working with electronic components, ESD clothing, ESD footwear and grounding are designed together; an implementation based on clothing alone is incomplete.
With shift working, the number of sets matters; a set that does not cover the laundry cycle leaves staff working in soiled clothing.

Frequently asked questions
How many sets per person for shift working?
It depends on the laundry cycle; most plants run two to three sets per person. Whether washing is done in house or outsourced directly affects that number.
Why is ESD clothing needed in an automotive plant?
Control units and sensors are sensitive to electrostatic discharge. ESD clothing drains the charge that builds on the wearer in a controlled way and prevents damage to those components.
Is ESD clothing enough on its own?
No. Garment, footwear, floor and wrist strap work as one system. When new ESD garments are bought, the existing floor resistance and footwear class should be reviewed too.
What is worn in the paint shop?
Lint-free antistatic coveralls are preferred. Respiratory protection against paint mist is planned separately; clothing does not cover that risk.
Coverall or two-piece for mechanics?
For work under vehicles a coverall is more protective, with no gap at the waist. For varied tasks a two-piece is more practical since the top can come off when it is not needed.
How is oil staining managed?
Dark tones hide stains but also hide soiling, which is unwanted where hygiene matters. Oil-repellent finishes keep the stain on the surface and improve how much washes out.
