Salon staff work on their feet with arms raised all day, so the cut accounts for shoulder and arm movement. Apron pockets are planned for scissors, combs and small equipment.
Dye and chemical contact can affect fabric colour quickly; darker tones and stain-repellent finishes are preferred.
The real load on salon clothing is chemical. Hair colour, developer and styling products can fade a fabric within months. Dark tones and greyish mid-shades hide these marks; white and pastel shades may look attractive in a salon but have a short life.
Range of movement is the second issue. Arms constantly rising above shoulder height cause tight-cut aprons to pull across the back. A raglan sleeve, a pleat at the shoulder blades or a stretch back panel solves this and noticeably improves shift comfort.

Is there a fabric that resists hair dye stains?
